Nixa, Mo. – The Bethany College Swedes Football team ended their season in Nixa, Mo. against the number 22-ranked Evangel University Valor.
The Swedes had a few highlights in the contest. In the first quarter, David Martinez recovered a fumble on the Bethany 41-yard line to halt a short Valor drive. Early in the second period, Kamorion Carter intercepted a Valor pass and took it 27-yards to the endzone for a Bethany touchdown. Towards the end of the quarter, Kerenski McGhee picked off a pass near Bethany’s endzone preventing another score by the Valor. The defense would become stout in the second half only allowing 13 points, but the Swedes would fall 41-10.
Luis Gonzalez concluded his excellent season going one-for-one in both field goals and extra point attempts. Gonzalez has been near perfect this season with his only miss coming in soaking wet conditions against Bethel College earlier this year.
As a team, the Swedes’ offense only totaled 188 yards of offense with 104 coming through the air. Defensively, the Swedes stopped the Valor on their only fourth down attempt and caused three turnovers.
This marks the end of the season for the Bethany College Football team as they would finish with a 3-8 overall record while going 1-4 in divisional play.
