Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Basketball team opened the 2026 calendar year with a match up against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles at home in Ray D. Hahn Gymnasium.
Bethany set the tone early, jumping out to a commanding 25–13 lead after the opening quarter. The Swedes shot nearly 59% from the floor in the first 10 minutes, using crisp ball movement and strong interior play to keep the Eagles on their heels. Although Oklahoma Wesleyan responded defensively in the second quarter, holding Bethany to eight points, the Swedes carried a 33–24 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be a battle, as both teams traded baskets and Oklahoma Wesleyan attempted to claw back into the contest. Bethany, however, answered each run with timely stops and key shots, maintaining control heading into the final period. A 16-point fourth quarter allowed the Swedes to pull away down the stretch and secure the double-digit victory.
Lilyan Walden continued her recent surge, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Walden has been on a tear offensively, averaging 16.3 points per game over her last three contests, and her all-around effort once again proved vital to Bethany’s success. Colbi Rignell led all scorers with 16 points while adding four assists, and Becca Unruh chipped in 10 points on an efficient shooting night.
In the paint, Janae Black-Harmon delivered another dominant performance, recording her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Her presence on the glass helped Bethany win the rebounding battle, 36–28, and generate key second-chance opportunities.
