The Bethany College Swedes opened their season in impressive fashion on Wednesday, sweeping the Hesston College Larks in a dominant doubleheader at home.
GAME ONE: SWEDES ERUPT FOR 16 RUNS
Bethany wasted no time setting the tone in game one, rolling to a 16-1 victory behind an explosive offensive performance.
Ulissa Rivas had a huge day at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a Grand Slam and seven RBIs. She consistently came through in key moments and powered the Swedes’ big innings, including an 11-run fourth that broke the game wide open.
Kalee Aguilar was also outstanding, scoring four runs while collecting two hits and a double. Avery Newmiller added two hits and two RBIs, while Kyson Vap chipped in two hits and two RBIs of her own.
Inside the circle, Jordyn Stelzig set the tone early. She worked 2.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out two and limiting hard contact. Dylann Baker came in to close things out and was sharp, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. She surrendered only one hit and struck out two, keeping the Larks off balance and preserving the Swedes’ commanding lead.
GAME TWO: BALANCED ATTACK LEADS TO 10-2 WIN
The Swedes carried their momentum into game two, securing a 10-2 win to complete the sweep.
Kyson Vap led the way with two hits and two runs scored, including a double. Ulissa Rivas continued her strong day with a triple and two RBIs, while Addilyn Miller delivered a big pinch-hit double that drove in two runs.
Avery Newmiller added an RBI and scored once, and Kalee Aguilar recorded two more hits at the top of the lineup.
Paris Hammer delivered a steady and confident performance in the circle. The right-hander threw a complete game, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings. She struck out two, walked only one, and worked efficiently throughout, finishing with 65 pitches. Hammer also induced key ground balls and flyouts at important moments, while the Swedes’ defense backed her up with a flawless effort.
