Swede Men’s Soccer Unable To Show Their True Level in Road Match vs Falcons

Wichita, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men’s Soccer team faced Friends University on Saturday afternoon, September 27, in a challenging KCAC conference matchup. Looking to surprise the opponent, the Swedes started the game with a new formation and several changes in the starting lineup. Unfortunately, the plan didn’t go as expected, as Friends took an early lead with a goal in the opening minutes and added another around the 13th minute.

Midway through the first half, Bethany made three to four substitutions that helped the team improve and press higher up the field, creating a few dangerous opportunities. However, Friends extended their lead with a third goal in the 32nd minute.

The second half started much better for the Swedes, who had their best stretch of the match in the first 10–15 minutes and created several clear chances to cut the deficit. Despite the improvement, Friends capitalized on a set piece to score their fourth goal. Bethany continued to fight and show positive moments, but fatigue and the high temperatures became a factor as the match progressed. The game ultimately ended in a 7–0 defeat — a scoreline that does not reflect how competitive the Swedes have been throughout the season.
