Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes men’s soccer team faced Evangel University on Saturday evening at Coach Ted Kessinger Family Stadium in a match that proved to be one of the most difficult of the season, falling 8–2.
The first half was one to forget for the Swedes, who struggled to find their rhythm and went into the break trailing 5–0. Evangel opened the scoring with a goal that appeared to be offside, but despite that, Bethany could not find their best version and conceded four goals within the first 26 minutes of play. It was a performance that did not reflect the team’s true level or the quality they have shown throughout the season.
In the second half, much like in their previous match at McPherson, the Swedes came out with renewed energy, intensity, and determination. Although Evangel struck first again after the break, Bethany responded quickly when Steven McQueen headed home a cross from Richard Livingston. Livingston would later deliver another well-placed ball, this time connecting with Preston Vincent, who scored to make it 8–2, the final score of the night.
It was a difficult evening for the Swedes, but they will look to regroup quickly and bounce back in their next match.
