The Bethany College Swedes Men’s Basketball team continued its challenging stretch on Saturday afternoon, falling 89–57 on the road to No. 3-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University at Mueller Sports Center. The loss marked the Swedes’ fifth consecutive defeat by more than 20 points as they continue to search for momentum late in the season
Bethany showed early fight against the nationally ranked Eagles, keeping pace for much of the opening half. The Swedes found offensive rhythm behind the hot shooting of Keddric Mays II, who consistently attacked the defense and knocked down shots from deep. Despite the competitive effort, Oklahoma Wesleyan’s efficiency and depth began to show, as the Eagles closed the first half on a strong run to take a 50–34 advantage into the break.
The second half proved difficult for the Swedes, as offensive struggles and turnovers allowed Oklahoma Wesleyan to extend its lead. Bethany shot just 24.0 percent from the field after halftime and managed only 23 points in the final 20 minutes. The Eagles capitalized on those struggles by controlling the paint and converting second-chance opportunities, outscoring the Swedes 40–14 in points in the paint and 18–6 in second-chance points.
Mays II led all Swedes in scoring with 19 points, adding five rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes of action. JJ Warfield provided a solid spark off the bench, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds, while David Mitchell chipped in 10 points and three assists. Bethany received 23 points from its bench, but Oklahoma Wesleyan’s reserves proved overwhelming, accounting for 54 points.
Bethany, now 6–15 overall and 2–14 in conference play, will look to regroup as it prepares for the next stretch of its schedule. Despite the score line, the Swedes will aim to build on the early positives shown against one of the top teams in the nation as they continue to push forward.
