The Bethany College Swedes put together a determined effort on Wednesday night but came up short in an 82–64 loss to the York University Panthers at Hahn Gymnasium. York’s hot shooting in the first half proved difficult to overcome, as the Panthers shot 50% from the field and built a 46–28 halftime lead. Bethany worked to close the gap in the second half, matching York with 36 points, but the early deficit was too large to erase.
Despite the loss, the Swedes received strong performances from several key players. Daniel Bennett led the way with an impressive 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting while also grabbing 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Jordan Reams added 16 points, including three three-pointers, and provided a steady scoring presence throughout the night. Keddric Mays II contributed 8 points and 5 assists, helping facilitate the offense, while Milton Kpehe added 6 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Bethany found success in the paint, outscoring York 36–26 around the rim, and also held a slight edge in points off turnovers with 14. However, the Swedes struggled from beyond the arc, making just 4 of 27 attempts, which made it difficult to keep pace with York’s efficient perimeter shooting. The Panthers’ bench production also created challenges, as Bethany was outscored 33–8 in reserve points.
The Swedes, now 4–5 on the season, will look to regroup as they continue conference play, carrying forward the strong individual efforts and aiming for a more balanced team performance in their next outing.
