York, Neb. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team took a trip to York, Neb. to take on the York University Panthers in a pivotal series for the Swedes. Both teams were supposed to play yesterday, but the games were moved to today, Wednesday, April 8, due to predicted overnight temperatures.
GAME 1: SWEDES 5, PANTHERS 3
The Swedes got it started early as Avery Newmiller singled home Ulissa Rivas in the top of the first. York would answer back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead until the fifth inning where Bethany would score three topped of by another Newmiller single to score Rivas. Newmiller would single home Kyson Vap in the top of the seventh to finish off the Panthers as the Swedes would win 5-3.
Avery Newmiller was cooking at the plate with three RBI singles in four chances. Ulissa Rivas and Kyson Vap each touched home plate twice.
MacKenzie Yoder had her best start of the season lasting 4.1 innings and earning the win. Dylann Baker entered in relief for the final 2.2 innings and earning the save.
GAME 2: SWEDES 4, PANTHER 0
The Swedes would get on the board and never looked back scoring one run in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Avery Newmiller would continue her excellent day with another three-for-four game; this time with just one RBI. Kyson Vap had an even more impressive stat line as she was a perfect three-for-three at the plate and a run scored. Addilyn Miller had a noteworthy performance going two-for-three at the plate and two runs scored.
Jordyn Stelzig continued her hot streak in the circle and she went all 7.0 innings allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out two batters on 78 pitches.
