McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — McPherson College is excited to announce that Kananda Skinner has been named the new head competitive dance coach, effective immediately.

“We are very excited about adding Kananda to our dance program,” assistant athletic director Ed Loeb said. “She has provided some expertise in choreography to the program in the past, but we are looking forward to seeing how the team develops with her day-to-day involvement. Kananda has impressed me with her eagerness to find and to develop the the current and next great class of McPherson College dancers.”

Skinner has taught dance lessons for the past six years and currently teaches young dancers in the McPherson community. Her current dancers compete in competitions, as well as perform locally.

Kananda started dance training at the age of 4 with the Peggy Sims School of Dance. She continued her training as a dance company member with Tamara Howe School of Dance, and Prestige School of Dance. She has won numerous awards at dance competitions and has participated in many dance conventions and workshops.

Kananda has danced professionally with Salina Liberty Bells, a dance team that performed during indoor football games.

“I’m so excited to be coaching for McPherson College!” Skinner said. “I am blessed to have this unique opportunity to share my passion for dance with the next generation. I look forward to mentoring these dancers and building a great program.”

Skinner received a certificate in computer-aided drafting from Salina Area Technical College and currently works full-time for Pfizer in McPherson.

She currently resides in McPherson with her husband, and one-year-old son Thatcher.
