McPherson, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men’s Basketball team took on the McPherson College Bulldogs in a cross-county clash. This time, the teams met on the Bulldogs’ home court.
The first half started slow for the Swedes, but the freshman trio of Milton Kpehe, Will Martinez, and JJ Warfield would combine to score 12 of the final 17 points of the quarter to trim the Bulldog lead to 43-41 at the break.
The second half showed promise early as the Swedes took their first lead of the game by way of a three-pointer from Keddric Mays II to open the period. Unfortunately, that lead would only last 16 seconds as the Bulldogs would begin to really get rolling by scoring 64 in the half. The Swedes would fall 107-74.
Keddric Mays II would lead the Swedes in every major stat category except blocks. Mays II had 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. David Mitchell (15) and JJ Warfield (11) were the only other Swedes to top double-digit scoring. Daniel Bennet led the team in blocks with two.
Rebounds played a huge factor in this one as the Bulldogs reeled in 26 offensive boards compared to the Swedes’ 30 total rebounds. Those offensive boards led to 25 second chance points.
