Kansas City, Mo. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team took a trip to the Missouri-side of Kansas City to take on the Avila University Eagles in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1: SWEDES 4, EAGLES 8

The Swedes would take a 2-1 lead in the third inning by way of a Ulissa Rivas homerun that also scored Kyson Vap. Bethany would not score again until the seventh inning when Vap hit a triple to right-center field scoring Camille Stauffer. Rivas would single home Vap in the next at-bat, but that wouldn’t be quite enough as the Swedes fell 4-8.

Ulissa Rivas would tally three of the Swedes’ seven hits in the contest resulting in three RBI and a run scored. Kyson Vap would go one-for-two at the plate, but got on twice to score two runs. Kalee Aguilar recorded two hits in four attempts while also partnering with twice Avery Newmiller, and once with Abigail Taylor, for a couple of double-plays.

Jordyn Stelzig drew the start in Game One lasting 3.0 innings. Amia Alexander-SimsNadyelle Bones, and MacKenzie Yoder would each pitch 1.0 inning in relief to finish out the contest.

GAME 2: SWEDES 1, EAGLES 5

Kyson Vap would score the lone run for Bethany due to an error on Avila’s centerfielder to knot it up at 1-1 in the third inning, but that would be all the damage done by the Swedes as they would fall 1-5.

Ulissa Rivas would tally a hit to extend her games with a hit streak to double-digits. Addilyn Miller recorded her fourth stolen base of the season. Avery Newmiller and Kyson Vap each recorded extra-base hits as Newmiller hit a double in the sixth and Vap hit a triple in the third.

Dylann Baker pitched a complete game going 6.0 innings while striking out two batters.
