Resilient Tiger men Get First SAC Win Over USAO

McPherson, Kan. – The Tiger Men’s Basketball team took the floor on Saturday seeking to right the ship and get their first win in SAC play this season. Their opponent, the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma Drovers were also looking for their first conference win. The Tigers would also be without starting forward Travis King for the contest.

The Tigers did not miss a beat though, shooting for over 50% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc, they were able to down the Drovers 92-86 inside Jerry E. Alexander Arena.

Jevarrick Butler led the Tigers in the way of scoring with 25 points, going 4-8 from beyond the 3-point line. He was also active on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds to limit Drover possessions. Chris Whitten contributed 22 points and also tallied four steals on the other end of the floor. The Tigers had two other players in double figures for the contest.

Despite being outrebounded, 50-26, the Tigers made up for it with timely shooting and converted 20 points off of USAO turnovers.

The Tigers saw their lead to stretch to as much as 16 with six minutes remaining in the contest. The Drovers capitalized on Tiger turnovers and missed shots in the final stretch but the Tigers would hold on to win as the Drovers could not convert from deep in an attempt to tie the game.

The Tigers move to 6-5, 1-4 on the year and turn their attention as they host Oklahoma Panhandle State in another SAC matchup on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7:45pm. The game will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network and SAC Sports Network.
