MMS 7th and 8th Grade A Teams Defeat Derby, B Teams Suffer Close Losses


McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson Middle School Girls Basketball team would battle Derby on Thursday. Both 7th and 8th grade A teams would defeat the Panthers, but the B teams would fall be narrow deficits.

In the 8th Grade A Game, the Pups would win 44-35. Head Coach Heidi Ricke said, “We played a great game tonight and showed some improvement on our defense and ball handling, with 11 steals and only 10 turnovers.  I am so proud of the way we played tonight with balanced scoring.” 


Brynn LittleJohn:  13 pts. 10 Rebounds 1 Steal

Jaela Thompson: 11 pts 6 Rebounds 2 Steals

Carmin Pavlovich:  8 pts 7 Rebounds 3 Steals

Rylie Whitfield:  8 pts 3 Rebounds 1 Steal

Piper Alvord:  4 pts. 3 Rebounds 3 Steals

Ari Prose: 0 pts. 0 Rebounds 1 Steal


In the 8th Grade B Game, the Pups would fall 26-21. Coach Ricke said, “Although we came up short, I was very impressed with how we came together and executed our offense and played hard.  These girls played with a lot of heart tonight and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

In the 7th Grade A Game, the Pups would win 38-7. “The game was physical.” noted Head Coach Matt Sandbo, “We did a good job contesting shots, and making it hard for them to score. A lot of things to clean up and work on, too.”

In the 7th Grade B Game, the Pups would fall 23-21. Sandbo noted that it was physical in the game as well. He said, “The kids fought to the end and played hard.” he concluded by noting there was much improvement from the first game to the second.
