MMS 7th & 8th Grade Boys Basketball Teams Sweep Newton in A/B Contests

All four McPherson 7th and 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team’s were successful on Monday, as they returned to the hardwood to take on Newton.

The 8th Grade A-Team won 43-27, and following the game, Head Coach Tyler Brown noted, “It was nice to get a win for our first home game of the season. This team did a great job of holding their opponent to under 30 points tonight.” Brown said, “If we can continue to do that defensively this team will pile up some ‘W’s’.”  He mentioned that Ashton Malm and Cole Cooper were their consistent selves again. Coach Brown said, “They seem to always be good for double figures.  But not only did they score for us, they also did a great job spreading the ball around helping six other players find the boxscore themselves.”

The 8th Grade B-Team defeated Newton 43-27. “The guys played well.” noted Coach David Goerzen, he added, “We got some great turnovers and were able to convert those into points. I think the guys are starting to settle in.  We are becoming more familiar with our offensive plays and schemes, which is allowing us to not think too much, and giving us a chance just to play ball.  Goerzen concluded by saying, “We hope to improve once again as we move on to a rematch with Lakewood Thursday night.”
