Men’s Doubles Shine, Swedes fall to Bulldogs and Warriors

Freemont, Neb. –  The Bethany College Swedes Tennis teams took a road trip around Nebraska Saturday, February 14. First stop was for the men’s team as they took on the Concordia University Bulldogs in Seward, Neb. Afterwards, both teams took on the Midland University Warriors in Freemont, Neb.

MEN’S GAME 1: SWEDES 1, BULLDOGS 6

The men’s team started off strong as they would take the doubles points by way of a tiebreaker. The No. 1 doubles team of Francisco Bravo and Sebastian Stipanov won their match 7-6 (7-2) and the No. 3 doubles team of Diego Bsereni and Gustavo Cardoso won 7-5. Although the Swedes won the doubles point, they were swept in all singles matches with Bravo having the best outing in the No. 1 spot losing a heartbreaker in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 0-1 (6-10).

MEN’S GAME 2: SWEDES 3, WARRIORS 4

Again, the Swedes Nos. 1 and 3 doubles team won their matches giving Bethany the doubles point. In the singles matches, Martin Priban grinded it out and won his match in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8). The No. 2 Sebastian Stipanov was winning his match until his opponent retired due to injury.

WOMEN’S MATCH: SWEDES 2, WARRIORS 5

The women’s team opened their season with a tough matchup as the Warriors would not drop a single set. Bethany’s wins were due to Midland only playing four women.

The Swedes will have a week to get ready for next weekend as they are set to take on the Mount Marty Lancers and Morningside University Mustangs. The match against the Lancers is set for Friday, February 20, at 3:00 PM. The match against the Mustangs is set for Saturdya, February 21, at 10:00 AM.
