How it Happened
After dropping the doubles point to UMSL, the Bulldogs were in need of four wins in the singles matches. In #1 Singles, Arthur Nardy picked up the win over Tommy Griese; Griese was leading the match 1-0 until he needed to retire due to injury. Jayson Wasserfuhr gave an excellent effort in #2 Singles against Percy Siercke. Wasserfuhr would force a tie-breaker game in the first set but would fall 7-5 followed by a 6-2 loss in the second set.
Bruno Barrientos found McPherson’s second win of the day with a win in the #3 Singles match. After winning a hard-earned first set 7-5, Barrientos rolled to a 6-2 second set to win his match 2-0. Similar to Nardy’s match, Hamish Wyatt took the match in #4 Singles due to his opponent retiring with injury; the match ended in the first set with Wyatt down 5-3.
Despite McPherson’s three wins, UMSL earned the victory in the #5 and #6 Singles matches. Balazs Temesvari and Davian Spies both fell in two sets to their opponents; the Tritons held on for the 4-3 victory at home.
