LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Hesston College men’s basketball team put together a strong second-half effort but ultimately fell 85–69 to Arkansas Baptist College on Saturday afternoon in Little Rock. The Larks stayed competitive throughout the contest and trimmed the deficit after halftime, but Arkansas Baptist’s balanced scoring and ability to capitalize on turnovers proved decisive down the stretch.

Hesston came out with energy, attacking inside early and generating quality looks on the offensive end. Brycten Harris led the Larks offensively, finishing with a team-high 17 points, while Brennon Dodge and Dante Smith each added 13 to keep Hesston within striking distance. Trent Thompson battled in the paint for 14 points, and Devin Lewis chipped in eight as the Larks competed possession by possession in the opening half.

Despite Hesston’s early push, Arkansas Baptist found a rhythm midway through the period, converting transition opportunities and second-chance points to slowly create separation. The Buffaloes carried a 40–29 advantage into the locker room, as Hesston struggled to find consistency from beyond the arc but stayed within reach by attacking the rim and competing on the glass.

The second half saw a more aggressive Hesston offense, as the Larks increased their tempo and looked to spark a run. Hesston scored 40 points after halftime, repeatedly working inside and drawing fouls to apply pressure. Harris and Dodge continued to attack offensively, while Smith provided key baskets to help trim the margin and force Arkansas Baptist to respond.

Arkansas Baptist answered each push with timely buckets, however, and maintained control in the closing minutes by converting from the field and at the free-throw line. Hesston continued to battle until the final horn but was unable to close the gap further.

Hesston finished the game shooting 42.9 percent from the field and scored 38 points in the paint, showing strength around the basket despite committing 18 turnovers. Arkansas Baptist countered with efficient shooting and steady production across its lineup to secure the road win.

The Larks return to action Wednesday, Feb. 11, as they continue conference play with a road matchup in Lawrence against Haskell.
