GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Hesston College powerlifting team made a strong showing at the College Throwdown hosted by Greenville University on Saturday (Nov. 7) where they competed against Ottawa University and Greenville. Every Lark lifter achieved at least one personal best at the meet as they battled with two of the top teams in the country.
Macayla Cano made history in the Powerlifting America 57kg sub-junior weight class posting a 160kg squat, the third-highest mark ever. This mark also set the Texas state record for her weight class. She followed that up with an 80kg bench and a 120kg deadlift for a total of 360kg, the seventh-highest total all-time in her class.
Logan Britton also had a historic day recording the third-highest squat ever pushing up 320kg and posted the fourth-highest total all-time in the 120kg sub-junior weight class at 720kg. With his historic squat mark and total, plus a 160kg bench and a 240 kg deadlift, Logan holds all of the Oklahoma state records in Powerlifting America for the 120kg sub-junior weight class.
George Bates broke all of the Kansas state records in the Powerlifting America 93kg sub-junior class putting up a 260kg squat, a 140kg bench and a 260kg deadlift for a 660kg total. Ryun Cole did the same in the 74kg sub-junior class recording a 117.5kg bench, a 225kg deadlift and a total of 552.5kg.
John Patterson set the new record for bench in the 83kg equipped sub-junior class pushing up 155kg.
Misty Grimaldo and Beth Whitney also had stellar days on the rack posting PR’s across the board. Grimaldo took third in the 84kg junior weight class with a 170kg squat, 87.5kg bench and a 150kg deadlift for a total of 407.5 while Whitney took second in the 69kg sub-junior class with a 120kg squat, a 60kg bench and a 132.5kg deadlift for a total of 312.5kg.
