Hesston Men’s Basketball Bested by Moundbuilders

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Hesston College men’s basketball team fell on the road Tuesday night to Southwestern College, 101–63. The Larks trailed by just five at halftime, 37–32, but the Moundbuilders used a strong second-half surge to pull away late.

Ky Kougl led Hesston in scoring with 14 points, knocking down two threes and adding two steals in 28 minutes of play. Marcus Golden added 9 points, including a pair of first-half threes that helped the Larks stay within reach early. Brycten Harris provided an additional spark off the bench with 8 points, while Rob Gambill and Brennon Dodge each chipped in 5. Trent Thompson contributed across the board with 7 points, 3 steals and 2 assists.

Hesston fought to keep pace from long range, finishing 8-of-29 from beyond the arc, and received 41 points from its bench. However, Southwestern controlled the interior and the glass, finishing with a 52–14 rebounding advantage and converting 31-of-37 attempts at the free-throw line. Southwestern was led by Wyatt Bell, who scored a game-high 26 points.
