OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Hesston College baseball team fell 11–3 to Mid-America Christian University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Larks struck first in the third inning. Noel Cesena worked a walk and advanced into scoring position before Manuel Aranguren drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the game’s first run.
Mid-America Christian responded in the bottom half of the inning with a big swing. A pair of hits and a Hesston error helped spark a four-run frame, giving the Evangels a 4–1 lead.
Hesston answered in the fifth inning. Cesena again reached base and came around to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Samuel Vasquez to cut the deficit to 4–2.
The Evangels extended their lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly before breaking the game open in the sixth. Mid-America Christian strung together multiple hits, including a two-RBI single from Jalen King, to push the advantage to 8–2.
Hesston threatened in the eighth as Kaleb Wise and Aranguren both singled, but the Larks were unable to capitalize. Mid-America Christian added three more runs in the eighth to extend the lead to 11–2.
The Larks plated one final run in the ninth when Cole Steinrich scored on a wild pitch following a single from Cesena, but the rally fell short.
Cesena led Hesston with two hits and two runs scored, while Aranguren added two hits and an RBI. The Larks drew eight walks in the game but left nine runners on base.
Hesston will return to action Friday when the Larks travel to Kansas City for a three-game weekend series against Calvary University.
