Bulldogs Dominate in 7-0 Victory Over Evangel

Springfield, Mo. – McPherson Women’s Tennis hit the road on Saturday for a matchup with the Evangel University Valor. The Bulldogs entered the contest riding a five-game win streak and looked to remain perfect in KCAC play, while the Valor aimed to turn things around following a 6-1 loss to Friends earlier in the week.

How it Happened
For a fourth straight matchup, the Bulldogs swept the doubles matches to claim the first point of the contest. Laureen Van Drunen and Vanessa Hofer were dominant in the #2 Doubles match, winning 6-0, while the #1 and #3 Doubles matches were more tightly contested with McPherson coming out on top in both.

Taimi Nashiku and Bella Ellerbee took charge in the #2 and #3 Singles matches, winning in straight sets to add two more points for the Bulldogs. Hofer also secured a win at the #1 spot with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

The second round of singles opened with Van Drunen earning a comfortable win at the #4 spot to give McPherson a 5-0 lead. Eva Lesteluhu also picked up the point in #6 Singles, though she faced more resistance, winning 6-2 and 6-3.

Maria Luisa de Lama competed in the most competitive matchup of the day, giving the Valor their only set win. De Lama took the opening set but dropped the second as Evangel forced a tiebreak. She responded with a strong showing in the tiebreak, winning 10-4 to seal McPherson’s 7-0 victory.
