Bethany Womens Volleyball Battles Benedictine but Comes Up Short

Atchison, Kan. – Bethany College was on the road, taking on the Benedictine College Ravens, Tuesday, September 16th. The Swedes were coming off of two sweeps looking to add to the win column before their conference opener. Unfortunately, Bethany would come up short and fell to the Ravens, 0-3.

First set of the match, Bethany came out strong and aggressive but Benedictine proved they weren’t going away easily. Both teams continued to go back and forth with quick side-outs, never giving the other time to gain momentum. The set was tied over six times before the Ravens managed to string together a couple of points at 16-17 mark. The Swedes found themselves down by four when a timeout was called to regroup, 16-20. From the Bethany couldn’t recover and the dropped the first set, 17-25. The second set didn’t prove much better for Bethany as the Swedes struggled early on with serve receive. The Ravens led by as many as four points for the first half of the set. The deficient was too great to overcome for the Swedes and the second set ended, 16-25. The Swedes adjusted after a few miscues and found their traction as the set was tied up at 13-13, forcing Benedictine to use a timeout. Trying to slow down the Swedes, the Ravens struggled to contain Bethany’s momentum. The Swedes took the lead at 22-20. The Ravens came back and the set was tied at 22-22. Benedictine then took the lead but Bethany didn’t back down and the set was tied again at 24-24. Win by two, the Ravens took advantage of a hitting error and took the win. The Swedes fell, 24-26.

Notable Stats from this game include 5 kills and hitting a .300 was Antonette Carochi, 4 kills and hitting a .333 was Chloe Linville, 17 assists and 7 digs by Ashlynn Gehring, and 11 digs by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz.
