McPHERSON, Kan. — Congratulations to this week’s athlete of the week, Ciara Rawson, senior on the McPherson High School wrestling team!
The week – Rawson continued her strong season by winning the Class 4A regional championship in McPherson. Rawson swept through the 235-pound division, winning three matches, including two by fall. She eked out a hard-fought 5-3 semifinal win over Holcomb’s Abigail Redden, and then Rawson pinned Wellington’s Natalie Burnett in 41 seconds in the regional championship match.
The season – Rawson, a senior, has won tournaments this season at Burlington, Circle and the regional at McPherson. She enters the 4A state tournament on Feb. 28-March 1 in Salina as one of the favorites to win the state championship, as Rawson sports a 16-1 record.
The Athlete of the Week is presented by Hutchinson Community College.
