Two Men Arrested after Drug Bust Tuesday in Barton County

Two central Kansas men are in custody after quantities of drugs were found in a vehicle Tuesday in Barton County.

Barton County Sheriff’s Deputies were advised by the Kansas Department of Corrections EAI unit a quantity of drugs would be entering the county via K-156 during the day, along with a vehicle description and suspect information, both of whom were wanted for parole violation.

After deploying multiple deputies and detectives to the area, assisted by Great Bend Police, the car was spotted as it came into Barton County near Claflin. At this point a felony traffic stop was conducted and the suspects, identified as 43 old Jerry Wayne Smith Jr. of Salina and 21-year-old Christopher Lee Smith of Abilene were arrested.

After a K9 deputy picked up on the presence of controlled substances, a search of the vehicle turned up quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, and synthetic cannabinoids along with two handguns.

Wayne and Christopher Smith were booked into the Barton County jail on multiple drug charges and criminal use of a firearm. The drug charges carry a $100,000 bond, with the parole violation warrants having no bond.
