McPHERSON, Kan. — A pair of traffic signal issues along East Kansas were addressed by McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday.
Payment to L&S Electric of Salina was approved for rewiring of the signals at West Lakeside Drive, where there have been frequent malfunctions, and the existing wire coating being cracked and deteriorating. L&S will also modify the mast arm at Kansas and Maxwell, which currently hangs out over the westbound lane and should only hang over 1 ½ of the eastbound lanes. Due to the highly specialized nature of this work only one quote was obtained.
Commissioners accepted a low bid from Conco Construction of nearly $123,000 for extension of a new Wastewater Treatment maintenance building to accommodate a sewer truck, and purchase of materials for a pair of street patches along West Northview at Manchester and Walnut. Another contractor who submitted a bid failed to provide certain documents required on projects such as this and also wanted additional payment to use the same material supplier as for the original metal structure.
Commissioners approved the legal documents connected with sale of $1.2 million in temporary notes for the North Main fire station project. The temp notes are being purchased by Peoples Bank and Trust with an interest rate of four percent and can be called at any time prior to maturity without penalty. These notes were authorized by the Commission on June 4.
Approval was also given to submit a request for payment from the 2023 CVR Community Development Grant including a distribution of a payment to one business, the last of such payments, and payment of grant administration costs.
Another property abatement has been directed by Commissioners, one that’s been subject of prior proceedings. This is at 822 North Maple, and the commission accepted a bid of $1,175 from Green Thumb Lawn and Landscaping to take care of grass and weeds, trimming and clearing trees, junk removal and general cleanup.
The Commission also approved a payment for Guardian Tracking services through Vector Solutions for the Police Department, billing for which had been sent to the wrong email, and an agreement with Reach Solutions to serve as the city’s primary contractor for IT Management starting Oct.1. This involves separation of servers of the city and the Board of Public Utilities, with the person currently overseeing both to remain with BPU and the city to contract with Reach, which provides IT management to a number of entities including USD 418 and the City of Lindsborg.
