McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson City Commissioners have accepted a just over $ 1 million bid from Conrad Fire and Equipment for a replacement of Engine 3. Two bids were received, and the Fire Department apparatus committee recommended acceptance of the Conrad bid for a Pierce unit based on a desire to standardize the department’s fleet.
Commissioners also approved an additional payment to Hutton for work done on the new North Main Fire Station as well as a payment for small items being used to finish up the privately funded restoration of the 1928 American LaFrance.
A change order on the Euclid extension of the Elm Street Drainage Project was approved. The change order, which reduces the contract by just over $54,000 revises unit prices for slit fence, aggregate base, and use of jetted sand rather than flowable fill.
Related to this project, the Commission also approved a just over $3,500 payment for permanently filling in and sealing off window wells for the buildings at 224 North Main and 110 East Euclid. During the past week the water main in the Main and Euclid intersection was lowered and other continued in the alley east of Main on the south side, with storm sewer work to continue in the Main and Euclid intersection this week.
Commissioners approved two change orders related to the Lakeside Park bank restoration project. Both are related to design work, with the contract price with Alfred Benesch and Company for phases 3 and 4 of the projects reduced by a combined just over $7,500.
Updates were also provided on a number of ongoing projects, including the four bay shop extension at the Wastewater Treatment Plant where extension framing has begun, and steel was expected to arrive this week.
Personnel items this week included acceptance of resignations of a police reserve officer, an animal control officer and a park maintenance worker and hiring a firefighter/EMT.
The Commission approved a quote from Gard Construction of Salina to repair part of a six-inch water main at McPherson Cemetery that is leaking. Cost for the Repair came to just under $2,600, which was cheaper than having BPU do the work.
The Commission approved submission of letters of support in connection with public transportation grants being sought by the McPherson County Council on Aging, MCDS and Disability Supports of the Great Plains, and for a taxi voucher program operated by the city.
It also approved an update to the city’s purchasing policy and approved special event requests for the Christmas Parade of Lights Dec. 7 and the YMCA’ Wobble Bobble 5K Nov. 16.
