Over $32.5M in State Grants Announced for Services for Survivors of Crime, Children’s Advocacy Centers, and CASA Programs

Governor Laura Kelly announced Thursday over $32.5 million in state grants to maintain and enhance services for adult and child survivors of crime. These grants, funded through the State General Fund were awarded to nonprofit organizations providing services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence as well as child abuse and neglect.

Grants in support of domestic violence and sexual assault services were awarded to BrightHouse in Hutchinson, Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas in Salina, and the Harvey County Domestic Violence Task Force.

Children’s Advocacy Center grants, which brings together professionals to investigate and respond to child abuse, along with Horizons Mental Health Center in Hutchinson, Heart to Heart in Newton, and Rice County Child Advocacy Center in Lyons.

Funding for Court Appointed Special Advocate programs, which provide volunteers to advocate in court for abused and neglected children, were awarded to CASA: A Voice for Children in Newton supporting CASA programs in Harvey and McPherson counties and to Central Kansas CASA of Great Bend, which serves Ellsworth and Rice Counties.
