McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Industrial Development Company Executive Director Kasi Morales told McPherson County Commissioners during her quarterly report Monday that they are working on bringing a “plug and play” career and technical education program to McPherson High School which will be tailored to local industry needs. There is a grant in progress that would help with program start-up costs which she hopes to hear about in the near future.
Right now, McPherson area students have to go to Hutchinson to get this training, and this program would allow McPherson area manufacturers to have the same opportunity as those in the Hutchinson area in terms of interfacing with students.
Morales also reported MIDC has joined Team Kansas, which works to recruit companies to Kansas and solidify existing connections. This allows them to have a larger marketing exposure and presence at events where McPherson will have a seat at the table to visit with industries and site selectors about the opportunities available.
In June, she was part of a mission to Germany, during which she was able to connect with a company there that already has a McPherson presence. She also visited with two other German companies looking at a US location, and representatives from one of those were in McPherson last week to look at what the city can offer. One concern that the company did have was about “amenities,” which is becoming an increasingly major factor in site selection.
