McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — Investing in community dreams also means being there when neighbors face unexpected hardship. Through partnerships with fund holders and local organizations, the McPherson County Community Foundation has established several funds to assist individuals dealing with serious illnesses and health challenges.

These funds play an important role in supporting McPherson County residents, offering financial relief during difficult circumstances beyond their control. The foundation currently administers four funds that help reimburse expenses related to medical hardships.

Giving Hope Cancer Fund

Inspired by a former co-worker, the Giving Hope Cancer Fund was established by Home State Bank through the McPherson County Community Foundation to support cancer patients in McPherson County. Applications are open to county residents, with eligible individuals able to receive up to $500 per year. Reimbursable expenses may include rent or mortgage payments, utilities, groceries and hotel stays.

Women and Children Combating Cancer

Women and Children Combating Cancer, formerly known as the Pink Line Walk and the Pink Pajama Party, provides support to women and children in McPherson County who are facing cancer. Through its fund at the foundation, WACC offers reimbursable grants for medical expenses, prescription costs, transportation, nutritional needs and essential household expenses.

Tobben House grants

The Tobben House fund assists individuals who must travel for medical care. Through this fund, the foundation offers up to $500 to help reimburse hotel expenses incurred during medical visits.

The Deanna Zeitlow Crohn’s Disease Assistance Fund

Established in October 2019, the Deanna Zeitlow Crohn’s Disease Assistance Fund helps individuals diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. The fund was created by the Zeitlow family and is named in honor of Deanna Zeitlow, who lived with the condition for most of her life. Annual assistance ranging from $500 to $1,000 is available to eligible recipients to help offset costs for uncovered treatment, medication or related living expenses.
