HUTCHINSON, Kan. — During Friday’s graduation for the 348th Basic Training Class from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Yoder, one of the class members received an award rarely given.

McPherson County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Britting was presented the Executive Director’s Academic Award. This requires, among other things, a 94 percent or greater score on all written tests and the final exam along with meeting final performance and skills testing requirements.

Other members of the class from the area include Ellsworth Police officer Megan Wyrick, Larned Police officer Anthony McCollough, and McPherson Police officer Will Patterson.

The 14-week class provides the required training to receive initial certification as a law enforcement officer in the state of Kansas.
