McPherson County Sees Significant Rainfall and High Winds Over the Weekend

Parts of central Kansas saw significant rainfall over the weekend, others saw minimal rain. The National Weather Service reported the heaviest band of rain was generally from north of Dodge City across Edwards and southern Stafford and Reno counties into Kingman and Sedgwick counties.

Through Sunday morning Macksville had recorded 4.22 inches,with around 3 ½ inches in the Stafford and Kingman areas and around 2.6 inches southwest of Ellinwood. 1-2 inch amounts were also common over much of the rest of Reno County into Harvey and Marion counties.

Reports into Ad Astra News indicated much of McPherson County saw around an inch of rain through Sunday morning. Many areas to the north of Hutchinson saw around an inch or less of rain, especially over much of Rice County where aside from around Little River and Sterling rainfall was minimal. 

Light rainfall was also reported in the Salina area, which has seen more rainfall than other area locations over the past few weeks.

Storms also caused some wind damage, with trees downed and large branches broken off in Norwich, and in southwest Kansas several sheds were damaged along with an irrigation system and temporary traffic signals at a road construction site near Jetmore where trees and power poles were also knocked over.

Flooding was also reported Saturday and Sunday over portions of Harvey, Marion and Sedgwick Counties with several roads in southern Marion County reported impassable Sunday morning.

More rain is expected on Memorial Day into Monday night with a a short dry stretch before the next precipitation chances arrive for the weekend.
