McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — Beyond the Presidential and Congressional elections, most McPherson County voters had no contested races Tuesday. Local voters gave Donald Trump 70 percent of their votes in the presidential race, with Kamala Harris receiving 24 percent.

Seven townships and three cities did have contested races for the Kansas Legislature. The city of Inman and Superior and Little Valley townships were in the 104th District where Incumbent Representative Paul Waggoner won 64 percent of the vote to 36 percent for Lynnette Krieger-Zook, That District also includes the Buhler and Medora areas and part of Hutchinson.

In the 74th District, which includes Canton and Moundridge plus five townships along with parts of Marion and Harvey Counties, Mike King defeated Jenna Ratzlaff 70-30 percent to succeed Representative Stephen Owens who won the open 31st District State Senate.

In the Salina area the two incumbent legislators who face election challenges both won Tuesday. Senator JR Claeys defeated John Baker to win another term from the 24th House District that includes Saline and Dickinson counties, while Representative Clarke Sanders defeated Lori Blake 58-42 percent in the 69th House District including southern Saline County and most of south Salina.

Also in Saline County, Anne Grevas received 79 percent of the vote for Second District County Commissioner, easily beating back a write-in effort by Kathleen Malone-Crouch, who narrowly lost to Grevas in the Republican primary.

Current indications are Republicans held their super-majorities in both houses of the Kansas Legislature, and may have even gained a little. One area legislative race that saw massive outside expenditures was Hutchinson’s 102nd House District where incumbent Jason Probst, the westernmost Democrat in the legislature, was defeated by Kyler Sweely.

Marion County voters turned out a second County Commissioner Tuesday. Michael Beneke defeated incumbent David Mueller 55 to 45 percent in the Second Commission District, while Clarke Dirks, who defeated incumbent Randy Dalke in the August Republican primary, took 81 percent of the vote over Randall Eitzen, Dalke had announced a write-in bid for the office, how many votes he received is not known at this time. There are also write-in votes to be counted for County Attorney, where the incumbent did not seek re-election and nobody else filed for the office.

All three Incumbent House members in the Kansas Congressional Delegation won re-election Tuesday. Republicans Tracey Mann in the Big 1st District and Ron Estes in the 4th district won by wide margins, as did Democrat Sharice Davids in the 3rd. Joining them in the House half of Congress will be former Attorney General Derek Schmidt, who defeated former Congresswoman Nancy Boyda in the open 2nd District. In McPherson County Mann received 603 votes more than Trump.
