McPherson County Commission Meeting 07/01/2024 Highlights

McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — A resolution approving a special use permit to allow a second residential unit on a property in the 1700 block of Buckskin Road west of Moundridge was approved by McPherson County Commissioners Monday. The Planning Commission last month recommended approval of the permit, which involves constructing a home for a couple who have been long time friends of the property owner and desire to help each other out as they get older and live out their lives.
In his monthly update, Planning, Zoning and Environmental Administrator Jon Kinsey said permit fee revenue so far this year has already exceeded what was collected for all of 2023. 23 zoning permits, with a construction value of $3.2 million ($1.3 million of that for one chicken barn). 14 Sanitation permits were also issued during June.
Commissioners agreed to hire Garber Surveying Service to conduct a flood elevation survey and possible letter of map amendment for part of the Public Works facilities on West Avenue A in McPherson. A recent update to flood plain maps for the McPherson area listed much of the east part of the property including the Public Works office building and several other buildings. This also impacts a new fueling system being installed there. The survey and possible LOMA application has a not to exceed price of $2,500.
The Commission approved purchase of a new CAT motor grader for the Public Works Department. The grader, with a purchase price of $424,569.91, is being purchased from Foley Equipment through the Sourcewell purchasing cooperative and comes with a 12-month standard warranty and a seven-year, 7,000 hour extended warranty.
The Commission also gave approval to advertise for a replacement employee in the department, and approved bids for purchase of road striping paint and glass reflective beads, the per unit cost of the paint coming in a bit lower than last year and the beads more than 2023.
Commissioners approved agreements with McPherson Hospital connected with a $90,000 Rural Hospital Innovation Grant the hospital was awarded. The grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is being matched with $180,000 from the hospital. The Commission also approved submission of a two-month time extension request on a Community Development Block Grant for improvements in Rural Water District 1 in the Roxbury area. That project has been impacted by delays in receipt of material, and the extension is primarily being sought to make sure there is a bit of breathing room to get the project finished.
