McPHERSON, Kan. — Project updates were presented to the McPherson City Commission Tuesday. On the Euclid extension of the Elm Street Drainage project more sidewalk was placed last week on the south side of Euclid east of Main and electrical conduit and wiring was completed for the Euclid and Main traffic signals.
In the Sycamore area the street department has removed the old roadway from Avenue B to the low water crossing and placed the first layer of base. This is the area when milling was being done, they found major subsurface issues.
At the Wastewater Treatment Plant coating was done on the interior of the new grit removal system and securing stairs to the structure, and construction of a four bay shop extension is nearly complete. Excavation was also completed on the wet well for Lift Station 3 and well set in the hole.
On the Deerfield South project work continued on the last section of sanitary sewer and associated laterals.
The Commission approved purchase of diving equipment for the McPherson Fire Department. The department established a dive rescue team in 2022 and took a series of classes at that time. Since it started, the team has responded to three incidents, and they are needing some additional equipment including communication equipment usable in water, along with full face masks, BCD’s and regulators. The items are being bought from two vendors for a cost of just over ten thousand dollars.
Commissioners approved payment for repairs to a pump housing on a tender truck, and for the Police Department replacement of a laptop computer used as a mobile data terminal in a police vehicle, purchased through Reach Solutions for just over $2,500.
A proposal to construct a concrete path under the Avenue A bridge east of Deerfield to access to the city’s north hiking and biking trails was accepted. Kurt Wagner brought the proposal, and he is taking care of the entire cost of that project.
In that area a change order on the Deerfield Estates Street and storm sewer projects was approved to add welded wire fabric to drainage flumes, which increases the contract with Prairie Landworks by just over $3,400. This adds reinforcement to the flumes. The Commission also approved a retention agreement and release that will be used for MIH Grant repayment on those properties.
Commissioners approved the scheduled replacement of two greens mowers for Turkey Creek Golf Course through Kansas Golf and Turf in Wichita for a total price of just under $150,000. The Commission approved an amendment to the Fee Resolution adjusting fees at Turkey Creek.
It also approved transfer of an employee from the Street Department to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Payment for repairs was approved for a pickup at the Wastewater Treatment Plant involving work that was more than Street Department personnel could handle.
