McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson is joining communities across the state in a weeklong celebration of international foods, cultures, arts, and interests as the Kansas Department of Commerce established the first Kansas Global Cuisines and Cultures Week to take place March 16-22, 2025.

Explore global culture with the McPherson Museum’s exhibit of Anna Larkin’s wood carvings. Born in Sweden in 1855, Larkin immigrated to the United States and settled in McPherson in 1896. Learn more about Larkin here and visit the Museum to see some of her carvings.

Have you always wanted to learn a foreign language? With a McPherson Public Library card, you can learn online through Transparent Language. Language learners can build vocabulary, practice skills, and maintain what they have learned with Transparent Language Online, available anytime, anywhere in 110+ languages. This is the perfect week to start!

The McPherson Public Library will also have a display of international cookbooks so you can experiment with global cuisine in the comfort of your own kitchen.

The Cook’s Nook has a variety of olive oils from different regions that can be used in your international cooking. Not sure where to start? You can sample the flavors before you purchase!

Also take the opportunity to dine at McPherson’s Mexican and Chinese restaurants to enjoy some international cuisine and support these local entrepreneurs who add so much flavor to our community. Tres Amigos, for example, serves authentic Mexican food for lunch and dinner along with delicious margaritas.

Of course, it wouldn’t be March without a taste of the Irish. Heartbeat Coffee has you covered with festive Irish-inspired lattes like the Nutty Irishman, 4 Leaf Clover, Cup of Gold, Isle of Paradise, Lucky Charm, and more. Coffee not your thing? Try a lotus, a fruity plant-based energy drink available in a variety of flavors including Shamrock Shuffle, Pot of Gold, Luck of the Irish, and Leprechaun Mischief. Which will you try first?!

The Locker Room also has “Irish” specials this month including Shamrocked and Wicked Leprechaun energy bombs and Luck o’ the Irish and Irish Flag super bombs. Or try a shake. Like Irish Cream, Shamrock Shake, Lucky Charms or Pot o’ Gold. They all sound delicious!

If a more adult Irish beverage is your style, be sure to register for Three Rings Brewery’s St. Patrick’s Day Irish Whiskey Tasting before the spots are taken. See details in the calendar of events below.

Noffy’s Sandwich Shop and Pub is blending the cultures with an Irish-inspired corned beef hoagie and Italian mint chocolate chip cannolis. The perfect global cuisine for lunch or dinner!
