The Barton Community College wrestling team opened its 2025-26 campaign Saturday afternoon on the road, dropping a 41-9 decision to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa inside the Tonkawa High School.

The Mavericks controlled the early portion of the dual, racing out to a 29-0 advantage through the opening six weight classes before the Cougars broke through in the upper weight classes.

At 174 pounds, sophomore Derek Truman put Barton on the board, needing just 1:46 to stick Keaton Belsha for the Cougars first victory of the season.

Dominic Riccardi followed with an 8-3 decision at 184 pounds over NOC-Tonkawa’s Jessie Chavez, trimming the deficit to 29-9 to hand Barton back-to-back victories.

The Mavericks closed out the final two bouts with a pair of falls to secure the dual.

In exhibition competition, Manuel “Kike” Yanez (125), Brennen Pfannenstiel (149), and Brody Schnoebelen (197) each earned victories by fall to highlight additional Cougar efforts.

The Cougars return to the mat next weekend traveling to Atchinson, Kansas, for the Loosbrock Duals and Service Salute Open held Saturday and Sunday.
