The Barton Community College women’s basketball team’s trip to southeast Kansas turned frigid Saturday afternoon as the Cougars fell 67–45 at 25th-ranked Coffeyville Community College.

Barton scored the afternoon’s opening bucket, but Coffeyville responded with an 8–0 run and later strung together seven more to build an early double-digit hole. The Cougars clawed back to within six in the second quarter and again trimmed the margin to seven on the first field goal of the second half, but another Red Raven 7–0 push followed by a decisive 12–0 fourth-quarter burst sealed Barton’s fate.

The loss, Barton’s second straight, drops the Cougars to 1–3 in Jayhawk Conference play and 3–7 overall, while Coffeyville improves to 3–1 and 9–1 on the season.

Barton stays in ranked-company territory Wednesday, returning home to host 20th-ranked Hutchinson Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip at Fleske Fieldhouse.

Mary Akinde and Christal Long led Barton with ten points apiece, while Regina Donanu and Kodi Greer added eight each.

Coffeyville’s Karliey Parker paced all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds, with Esme Smith and Sy’Ryah Wright contributing 15 and 12 respectively.

After Barton’s opening score, Coffeyville rattled off eight straight until Donanu beat the shot clock to halt the run at the four-minute mark. The Red Ravens quickly added another 7–0 stretch, interrupted only by a Keyona Hall three, using a 14–7 rebounding edge, including seven offensive boards, to build a 19–9 first-quarter lead.

Coffeyville opened the second with a three, answered moments later by a Greer triple. Long’s and-one finish and an Akinde bucket brought the Cougars within seven with 4:55 left. Greer’s top-of-the-key three sliced the deficit to six, but Coffeyville closed the half on a 7–4 spurt to take a 33–24 advantage into the break.

Long again opened the second half scoring, but Coffeyville countered with five straight, including a three, to rebuild a double-digit margin. Barton’s four-minute drought was snapped by Long’s up-and-under layup, followed by two Donanu free throws, cutting it to ten before the Red Ravens drained another three to spark a 7–0 close that ended with a buzzer-beater for a 47–30 lead.

Coffeyville’s fourth triple of the half stretched the gap to twenty before Eva Clements connected on her first three of the season, just the second of her career. Barton followed with a 7–0 run featuring buckets from Greer and Akinde around a Long three, but Coffeyville answered with an offensive rebound putback and transition layup to stabilize its lead at the 4:02 mark.

Another second-chance bucket and back-to-back threes fueled a clinching 12–0 run as Coffeyville built its largest margin of twenty-four with under three minutes remaining.
