Following a 3-1 series victory over Dodge City, redshirt sophomore Kyler Horsman of the Barton Community College baseball team was named the KJCCC Jayhawk West Week 10 Player of the Week.
A two-way player, Horsman played a key role in the Cougars’ series victory with a dominate four-game stretch at the plate. The Manhattan, Kansas, native went 12-for-16 (.750) with six runs scored and 11 RBIs, collecting three doubles, a triple, and two home runs while posting a .722 on-base percentage and 1.438 slugging percentage.
Across the four-game series, he produced in every contest, recording multiple hits in each game while driving in at least three runs in three of the four matchups. His top performance came in game two of the series, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. Horsman also picked up the win on the mound in the series finale, tossing six innings and allowing two runs to improve to 5-0 on the year.
Horsman’s selection marks the Cougars’ third Jayhawk West weekly honor of the season and first offensive recognition, joining recent Pitchers of the Week Braian Justice (Week 3) and Landon Haines (Week 2).
Horsman carried his momentum into Tuesday, extending both his on-base streak to 28 games and hitting streak to 10 straight, each marking the longest active streaks on the team, while going 2-for-5 with a double and his team-leading 13th home run, in Barton’s 16-3 seven-inning run-rule victory at McPherson College JV.
The Cougars will conclude its five-game road trip Thursday with the opening pair of a four-game series against No. 19 Hutchinson Community College. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m. from Hobart-Detter Field, with the series concluding Saturday at Jimmy Lawson-Danny Biggs Field.
