A day after wrapping up four duals at the Loosebrock Duals, the Barton Community College wrestling team returned to the mats Saturday with a productive showing at the Service Salute Open in Atchison, Kansas, placing five individuals and combining for a 23-23 record on the day.
The Cougars were led by a pair of third place finishers, Brennen Pfannenstiel (149-pounds) and Logan Buchanan (285). Pfannenstiel went 3-1, highlighted by two falls including a third-place pin in just 1:05 over Otero’s Kevin Cisneros. Buchanan also finished 3-1 on the mats, recording a first round pin and earning a forfeit victory in his third-place bout.
Freshman Kike Yanez (125) battled to a fourth-place result behind two early pins, while Shane Todd (133) finished fifth with a 4-2 mark that included a pair of falls. S’Ron Hill (184) rounded out Barton’s placers with a fifth-place showing after a solid 3-1 day featuring both a major decision and tech fall.
The Cougars’ balanced effort also saw five additional wrestlers contribute match victories throughout the day.
Friday’s Loosbrock Duals Recap
The Barton Community College wrestling team wrapped up the first leg of its two-day trip to Atchison, Kansas, on Friday, competing at the Loosbrock Duals and posting a 1-3 record against a mixed field of NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA programs.
Facing NCAA Division II Quincy University, NJCAA member Otero Junior College, and NAIA foes Benedictine College and Hastings College, the Cougars’ lone victory came in convincing fashion with a 43-13 rout over Otero. Barton fell to Quincy (52-0), Benedictine (33-20), and Hastings (33-24) in the remaining duals.
Individually, Todd (133), Pfannenstiel (149), and Hill (184) each led the Cougar lineup with three victories apiece, while Brody Schnoebelen (197) added a pair of wins on the day. Derek Truman (174), Julian Orrantia (125), Clayton Considine, and Buchanan (285) also contributed with one victory each.
Barton will continue their busy November schedule Friday and Saturday at the Cornerman Luke Preseason National Duals held in Richfield, Utah.
