Barton wrestling competes with abbreviated lineup at Golden Norseman Open

The Barton Community College wrestling team competed with an abbreviated lineup Saturday at the annual Golden Norseman Open, sending three attached wrestlers to the mats with one unattached competitor. Barton’s attached wrestlers combined for an 0-6 record on the day.

At 125 Jamal Garrett opened his tournament with a bye before drawing a challenging matchup in his first bout, dropping a third-period fall to No. 6 ranked Devon Fraizer of Iowa Western Community College.

Joshua “AJ” Almanza (133) and Tyler Gouker (141) also saw action for the Cougars, each dropping a pair of bouts in their respective brackets.

Competing unattached at 149 pounds, Colin Little posted a 1-2 record. After dropping his opening match, Little rebounded with a 50-second fall over Payton Westby of Ottawa University.

The Cougars will return home Thursday for their lone home dual of the season, hosting Neosho County Community College and Cowley College beginning at 4:00 p.m. Barton will also host Great Bend High School boys’ and girls wrestling matches against Liberal as part of the evening’s action.
