Barton Volleyball’s Kaneko named week six conference and national Defensive Player of the Week

Mina Kaneko of the now 12th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team has been selected as the week six KJCCC and NJCAA Division I Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

Kaneko anchored the Cougar backline with 64 digs across 12 sets, averaging 5.33 per set while adding 12 assists and a service ace in three road matches. Opening the week with 14 digs in a sweep at Pratt, the sophomore libero posted 26 digs in a five-set battle at 11th ranked Colby before concluding the week by adding 24 digs in a four-set win at Garden City.

The honor is Kaneko’s fourth of the season, earning the distinction in weeks 1, 2, and 4 while giving the team its eighth total, joined by Ori Briger (Week 2), Aubrey Olander and Indigo Pruitt (Week 3),and Stasa Stamenkovic (Week 4).

Now 5-1 in conference play and 16-4 overall, Barton continues its road stretch this evening with a 6:30 p.m. conference tilt at Cloud County Community College (0-6, 5-16) before opening up the home slate Saturday at 6:00 p.m. versus Hutchinson Community College.
