The Barton Community College men’s track and field team opened the 2026 season Saturday in Columbia, Missouri, competing in the Alexis Jarrett Invitational held at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Missouri.
Competing against a blend of junior college and four-year competition, Barton delivered an impressive opening meet, collecting five event victories, a pair of program record book performances, and a deep slate of eleven national qualifying marks highlighted by a dominant showing in the middle distances and relays.
The Cougars’ strength in the 400m headlined the day, led by Lamont Johnson‘s event-winning national qualifying time of 46.75, ranking his collegiate debut as the fifth-fastest performance in program history. Emmanuel Adams followed with a third-place national qualifying run of 47.91, while fellow freshman Furious Trammel added another national mark in fourth at 48.23. Taigon Peterkin rounded out the group with a personal best 49.32, as Barton placed five athletes among the top seven finishers.
Barton continued its middle-distance success with victories in both the 600m and 800m. Freshman Trevoy Smith captured the 600m title in a national qualifying time of 1:20.15, while Keandro Gordon claimed the 800m crown with a personal best national qualifier of 1:52.39. Sergi Gonzalez completed a strong one-two finish for the Cougars in his collegiate debut meet by taking second in a national qualifying time of 1:54.85.
Relay success capped the track action as Barton’s “A” 4x400m quartet of Trammel, Simeon Adams, Emmanuel Adams, and Johnson claimed victory in a national qualifying time of 3:10.40, ranking ninth fastest in program history. The Cougars’ “B” squad of Smith, Peterkin, Gonzalez, and Da’Marcus Brutus added a runner-up finish at 3:20.54.
Field events provided additional highlights as freshman Jaylan McLloyd captured the long jump title with a national qualifying leap of 7.44m (24-05.00). Devon Williams followed with a national qualifying runner-up finish in his collegiate triple jump debut at 14.61m (47-11.25). In the throws, Jaylon Calder posted a pair of national qualifying performances, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a personal best of 16.16m (53-00.25) and second in the shot put at 16.13m (52-11). Fellow sophomore DeAndre Bristol added personal best marks in both the weight throw and shot put to round out Barton’s depth in the ring.
