LARNED, Kan. — Below is the program schedule for Fort Larned National Historic Site’s Independence Day celebration (weather permitting). Fort Larned has provided some “tried-and-true” programs and added in some new ones too:
- 10 AM – Cannoneer’s Hop: Learn the steps to load and fire a howitzer in this hands-on program for all ages with a howitzer firing demonstration to follow
- 11 AM – Steadfast Small Arms: firing demonstration with the small arms used at Fort Larned
- 12 NOON – Saluting the Flag: A historic tradition
- 1 PM – Manmade Thunder: Instant Artillery firing demonstration
- 2 PM – Arrows vs. Bullets: Comparing and contrasting weapons use by the Plains Indians and US Army
- 3 PM – Working at Fort Larned: Civilians at Fort Larned, their roles, and the Army’s reliance on them
