Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Golden Belt: Stay Safe and Hydrated

SHARE NOW

An extended period of extreme heat is forecast for the Golden Belt into at least the middle of next week.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued an extreme heat warning for Barton County and the counties to the north and east from 2 PM Saturday to 7 PM Wednesday.

High temperatures are forecast to be at or near 100 degrees region-wide through at least Wednesday, which combined with high relative humidity will create dangerous conditions for anyone outside during the heat of the day.

If you have to be outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments, and drink plenty of fluids.

You’re also encouraged to check up on any relatives or neighbors who might not have air conditioning, and under no circumstances leave young children… or any other person… or pets in unattended vehicles, which can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

For western parts of south central and southwest Kansas, triple digit temperatures are also forecast at times, though humidity may be slightly lower. Still, precautions should be taken to avoid heat illnesses.
