6/3/25 Barton County Commission Meeting Highlights
BARTON COUNTY, Kan. — Barton County has extended the deadline for applications to be submitted for the 2025 Facade Improvement Grant program for three of the four cities in Barton County. County Administrator Matt Patzner told Barton County Commissioners Tuesday they have received sufficient applications for the program from Claflin, and are still accepting applications for Ellinwood, Great Bend and Hoisington.
The program provides assistance to businesses and property owners for facade improvements to defined areas to create a visual impact and increase economic prosperity, accessibility, and quality of life in those four cities.
Claflin, Ellinwood and Hoisington provide local matching funds for the program while Great Bend does not, an issue that was the subject of some briefly heated conversation during Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting. Applications for the program can be found at bartoncounty.org.
Commissioners approved an out of state travel request for attendance at the National Coalition Academy training taking place July 20-25 in Nashville. Tyler Morton from Juvenile Services and Nichelle Holinde from the Family Crisis Center will be accompanying a group of Barton County youth attending the conference, held in partnership with the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America. A CDC Drug Free Communities Support program grant is covering the costs involved.
The Commission also approved payment of just over $14,500 to the Center for Counseling and Consultation to cover outstanding balances for services rendered to 44 felony probationers through Community Corrections for mental health and substance use evaluations, treatment and medication. This is a budgeted expenditure through Community Corrections.
