BARTON COUNTY, Kan. — Barton County Commissioners Tuesday approved carryover budgets for Juvenile Services and Central Kansas Community Corrections for the 2025 Fiscal Year. This utilizes funds both entities received from fees collected over the prior year. Juvenile Services Director Marissa Woodmansee said it allows them to address issues outside of the funds from the Kansas Department of Corrections that support their operation.
Community Corrections Director Brooke Haulmark added this money also provides a “rainy day” fund, and part of what they plan to use these funds for is hot spots, which addresses some issues they are having now in some of the counties they cover, in which they are not able to access technology in certain courtrooms.
The Juvenile Services carryover amounts to $99,010.93, of which $21.188 is set aside specifically for evidence-based curriculum, incentives, or referrals to outside services for youth it served. For Central Kansas Community Corrections, the carryover is $73,285.74.
The Commission also approved a $3,843 change order on the remodeling of the clinical and nurses’ station at the Health Department. County Administrator Matt Patzner said these funds will cover painting work connected with the project, which will significantly improve efficiency for the department, which is nearly complete.
This will bring the total project cost through Brentwood Builders to $182,740, which is being funded through formula money the Health Department receives from the state.
