Topeka, KS – The Panthers Track & Field team traveled to Washburn University to compete in the Ichabod Invite over the weekend. The meet was a tremendous step forward for the program on the indoor season as it heads towards the Championships portion of the season. The weekend saw 3 new school records and 2 additional National qualifying marks. The weekend kicked off with a new Men’s DMR school record on Friday night with Tyler Landrum, Jeremey Ellington, Noah Laird, and Jaden Perry on the carry for the squad besting their own school record in the event from earlier in the season which had taken down the oldest school record on books for the Panthers. Just a short while after that record Tyler Landrum competed in the 600yd breaking Jared Sylvesters school record in the event by a little over half a second running 1:11.57 and earning him self a National Championship qualifying mark in the event and the #22 spot in the NJCAA.
Day two kicked off well with more outstading performances with some personal best in the 60m by Rhea Flander and Riley Berryman. Pia Zalazar followed that up with an indoor lifetime best of 2:29 in the 800m cementing herself in the top 5 all-time for the Panthers. Continuing where he left off the Tyler Landrum ran an all conditions life time best in the 800m, 1:55.54, becoming the second fastest in Neosho history and earning another National Championship qualifier. He wasn’t done yet following that performance up with a 48.72 split on the 4x400m relay, the second fastest official indoor relay split in Neosho County history just behind Jared Sylvester. For his weekend of efforts Landrum earned the KJCCC Track Athlete of the Week Honors.
Next up for the Panthers will be the Region 6/KJCCC Championships hosted at Pittsburg State University on Saturday and Sunday, February 21st and 22nd.
