Panthers Hold Off Fort Scott Greyhounds for Gritty 51–49 Win

Chanute, KS –  Neosho Women’s Basketball edged Fort Scott in a hard-fought 51–49 victory on January 17, showing grit, balance, and timely scoring to secure the win.

The Panthers came out strong in the opening quarter, jumping to a 15–6 lead behind hot perimeter shooting and aggressive defense. Dagmara Kacprazak and Kaozong Yang helped set the tone early, while Neosho’s defense limited Fort Scott to just six points in the first 10 minutes. Fort Scott responded in the second quarter, outscoring Neosho 15–7 to tighten the game heading into halftime.

Neosho regrouped after the break and delivered its best stretch in the third quarter, winning the period 17–13.  Kacprazak led the charge with a game-high 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers and finishing efficiently from the floor. Yang added eight points, including key baskets that helped Neosho regain momentum, while Chloe Parker chipped in eight points and solid minutes on both ends of the floor. The Panthers also leaned on their depth, getting 28 bench points to maintain energy throughout the game

The fourth quarter turned into a defensive battle, with both teams trading stops and free throws. Fort Scott made a late push, but Neosho held on by executing down the stretch and controlling the glass. The Panthers finished with 43 rebounds and forced timely turnovers, limiting Fort Scott’s scoring opportunities in the closing minutes.

Neosho’s balanced effort proved to be the difference, as multiple players contributed across the stat sheet in a true team win. The 51–49 victory showcased the Panthers’ resilience and composure in a tight contest, giving them a confidence-boosting result as they continue their season.

Up next, the Panthers hit the road for a rivalry matchup as they travel to Iola to face Allen County Community College on January 24 at 2:00 p.m. Neosho will look to carry the momentum from this hard-earned win into a tough conference battle against the Red Devils.
