HUMBOLDT, Kan. — A 17-year-old Buffalo girl is in custody after an alleged road rage incident south of Humboldt Tuesday night.
According to a release from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office late Wednesday afternoon, just before 8 PM Tuesday, two Chanute residents reported to Humboldt Police they had been traveling on Old US 169 towards Humboldt when a Jeep Liberty, reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed, passed and repeatedly braked in front of them, leap- frogging them a couple of times, before a gun was pointed at the two people as they crossed the bridge near Monarch Cement.
The suspect vehicle was located and detained by Iola Police at the Petes on East Street. An Allen County Sheriff’s Deputy, after interacting with the driver, removed a 45 caliber handgun matching the description given by the reporting party. Also found in the vehicle were bottles of liquor, nicotine and THC vapes, and items suspected of being narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
The gun is believed to belong to the girl’s father who kept it in an unlocked safe.
The driver, after being processed by juvenile intake, was taken to the juvenile detention center in Girard. A 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle was released to a parent. Multiple charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon have been forwarded to the Allen County Attorney’s Office.
