Rebuilt Roundabout South of Garnett Reopens to Traffic

SHARE NOW

The roundabout at the north junction of U.S. 59 and U.S. 169 south of Garnett in Anderson County has been updated and reopened to traffic on March 9, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Work began in late May 2025 on the project that enlarged the lanes and realigned the entrances and exits to the roundabout. While the roundabout is open to traffic almost four months ahead of schedule, some work remains that will require crews to be in the area. This work includes pavement marking and erosion control, which will have minimal impact on traffic.

The road built east of the roundabout to carry traffic around the work zone will remain as an emergency lane, closed to the public except for first responders and oversized loads.

Clarkson Construction Co., of Kansas City, Missouri, had the $5.9 million contract.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 5-1-1. For updates on construction projects in southeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/southeast-kansas-projects.
